It’s official: Trustees raise tuition for summer session
The Board of Trustees unanimously passed an increase on Summer tuition students have been fighting against for months. Tuition for this upcoming Summer quarter will be increased 10% for non-resident undergraduates and 12% for residents. When the decision was made on May 12, students were left with six weeks to come up with the extra cash and less than seven days until registration for Summer opened to decide whether or not they could foot the bill.
The State needs this grant: A letter to the governor
On Dec. 9, Gov. Gregoire released a budget proposal that drastically cut state tuition assistance, including the State Need Grant program. About 20% of the Evergreen student body relies on the State Need Grant. Testimonies to the Governor from students poured in. Below is one such testimony. Econvergence, a conference adressing the current political, economical, and environmental problems, brought together Pacific Northwest activists in Portland, from Oct. 2–4. The keynote speaker was the ubiquitous Noam Chomsky, his presence exciting the sold-out audience and even bringing the man who introduced him, American University economics professor Robin Hahnel, to tears. For a man who is eight decades old, Chomsky resonated with authority during his speech, though he used humor to ease the density of information he presented.
